Habitual Disorders in Primary School Children


Abstract
The problems of habitual disorder is important not only for psychiatric or pediatric nurses. It is important for any nurses who may meet these problems. These problems deserves to be paid attention not for the symptoms itselves, but for the various emotional conflicts which can be exposed through the symptoms.
The following result came after analizing 1,164 children with problems of habitual disorders which can be discovered through the survey on the whole primary school children in Busan, Korea.
1) Children with problems of habitual disorder was 0.4% in total children. In this habitual problem, it was the most frequent in nail biting, then next thumb sucking, other manipulations in order.
2) Boys(805 cases ? 69%) showed higher incidence than girls(359 cases ? 31%)
3) The older children showed higher incidence than younger children.
4) Nail biting showed the best adjustment both in school work or school
attendance.
5) Among the children who have no parents, nail biting showed the highest incidem e.
Major-suggestion for further study was to have more larger and wider scale resear h for establishment of wider understanding of the problems of Korean children¢¥s habitual disorder.
